Dear Caving Trip Participants,
We are excited to have you join us on the upcoming caving adventure! Below you will find important information to help you prepare for the trip, including what to bring and what to expect.
Trip Overview
Caves maintain a consistent temperature of approximately 50°F year-round, so it’s important to dress appropriately. Please also be aware that the environment inside the cave can get extremely muddy. Helmets and headlamps will be provided, but you will need to bring the following items to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience:
Packing List
Lunch: We will be eating inside the cave, so pack a meal that is easy to transport and doesn’t require refrigeration. Be sure to also bring snacks to keep your energy up during the trip.
Water bottle: Stay hydrated by bringing a refillable water bottle.
Clothing
Warm layers: Dress in warm, moisture-wicking layers to protect yourself from the cool cave temperatures. Wear a base layer (long sleeves and leggings) under your caving clothes and an outer layer of clothes you don’t mind getting muddy (old sweatpants, long-sleeved shirts, or coveralls).
Extra change of clothes: After caving, you’ll want to change into clean, dry clothes for the ride home. One option is to wear your base layer home under your caving clothes and simply change the outer layer.
Change of shoes: Bring an extra pair of shoes to wear after the trip, as your caving shoes will likely be muddy and wet.
Additional Reminders
Prepare for mud: Expect to get very muddy, so choose clothes and shoes accordingly.
Safety gear: Helmets and lights will be provided, so no need to bring your own.
Storage for dirty gear: Consider bringing a plastic bag or a small tote to store your muddy clothes and shoes after the trip.
We look forward to exploring the caves with you! If you have any questions or need additional information, feel free to reach out.
Sincerely,
Justin Hawkins
